Message
We are living in an era of such profound upheaval and transformation that we are compelled to ask ourselves each day how best to engage with the world around us. Events unfold that make us feel as though we have returned to the 19th century, even as discussions have already begun on how to look ahead to the 22nd century. Kyushu University is expected to foster researchers who can illuminate society by traversing past, present, and future, and to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of global well-being.
It is an unexpected and extraordinary honor to have been appointed as Honorary Distinguished Professor. I sincerely hope that my limited knowledge and experience may be of some service to younger generations.
